📉 Violent Crime Declines in Shreveport So Far in 2026 ⭐

Good news for our city — violent crime in Shreveport has declined so far in 2026, according to a report from the Shreveport Police Department. Only three homicides have been reported this year — two in January and one in March — a significant improvement from recent years.

Mayor Tom Arceneaux highlighted the progress in his State of the City address last week, pointing to public safety as the foundation for everything else: "From Martin Luther King Dr. to Youree Drive, from Greenwood Road to East Kings Highway — public safety is the foundation on which everything else rests."

The address also touted economic development wins, the sale of remaining 2021 bonds, a water supply agreement with a possible data center, and ongoing blight reduction efforts. The city is moving in the right direction, and the data backs it up.

🏛️ Shreveport Mayor's Race Heats Up — Follow the Money

The 2026 Shreveport mayoral race is already getting interesting. Incumbent Republican Tom Arceneaux has a massive fundraising lead heading into the November election, but four challengers are gearing up to connect with voters. The latest entry: John-Paul Young, a Republican and current Caddo Parish Commissioner, officially joined the race this week.

Whether you're team Arceneaux or watching the challengers, this race is going to shape Shreveport's next chapter. Stay tuned — the Buzz will keep you posted as campaign season heats up.

First Day of Spring — And It Feels Like It!

Spring officially arrived this morning, and the ArkLaTex is warming up fast. The NWS Shreveport office says the warming trend will continue with afternoon highs aiming for the mid-80s under sunny skies through the end of March.

Friday: Sunny, high near 84°F — SSW winds 8-10 mph
Saturday: Continued sunshine, mid-80s
Sunday: More of the same — perfect for outdoor plans

⚠️ Fire Danger Alert: The NWS has issued an elevated fire danger warning across the entire Four State Region on Friday. Dry fuels and gusty winds mean outdoor burning and activities involving open sparks or flames are discouraged. Be careful out there.
